Animation on united Cebu awarded

A two-minute 3D animation about a united Cebu has won first place in an animation contest.

Warren Sanchez’ piece, called Nexus, was a winner in last week’s 5th Cebu Web Awards, a highlight of the Cebu Business Month 2005.

Sanchez, who now works at the creative department of Bigfoot Global Solutions Inc., used to work as a freelance developer of 3D animated logos for Cebu companies.

He said it was his third win for the Cebu Web Awards organized by the Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Peter Ian Mancao was best in multimedia with his ANI presentation.

Malee Bigornia, chairman of the 5th Cebu Web Awards, said this year’s competition drew 30 participants, up from 20 last year.

“This time, we had participants from Silliman University of Dumaguete City,” he said.

Promotion

“This has been a good venue in promoting awareness of the skills of our young multimedia creative developers. We have received a lot of inquiries from different companies about the works presented by the contestants,” he said.

The other Cebu Web Awards winners were Leo Atap of the Cebu Province, who won best in website for the LGU/e-governance category for www.cebu.gov.ph.

Gudick de Guzman of Cebu Institute of Technology won in the organization/school category with www.cit.edu; Wilmer Olano of Trans-Asia Shipping Lines in the corporate/commercial category for www.transasiashipping.

com; and Rhee Michelle Gonzaga of Cebu Central in the open category for www.cebu central.com.

Olympics

For the Web Olympics, the first on-the-spot website development contest in the country, Jerson Castoneros of Science and Technology Educational Center bagged the first prize for the high school category. Nomer Arellano of the University of the Philippines got the second prize.

For the college category, Edison Quiñones of Cebu Institute of Technology won first prize; Nixon Aficano of Center for Industrial Technology and Enterprise, second; and Patrick Ranny Pinay of College of Technological Sciences, third.

Elizar Pepino was first, Jecylito Calambro, second, and Ritchie Linao, third, in the the open/freelancer category. ALC
