Australian promoter wants Manny’s bro to fight in Oz
After year of toiling under the shadow of his more illustrious older brother Manny, it looks like Bobby Pacquiao is finally getting the attention he deserves.
William Takataka, an Australian promoter, said he is willing to pay a king’s ransom just to get Pacquiao, who became an overnight sensation after his shocking seventh-round KO over Carlos Navarro in California last month, to come to Australia and fight his ward, 19-year-old Billy “The Kid” Dib on July 27.
“We want Bobby Pacquiao here in Sydney and we will pay what he wants,” Takataka was quoted by boxingtalk.com.
Takataka reportedly wants a Pacquiao-Dib match as the main supporting match of IBF/IBO flyweight champion Vic Darchinyan’s title defense against Jair Jimenez at the Sydney Entertainment Centre.
But while Takataka is currently trying to work out a deal with the people representing Pacquiao, his brash ward says that although his camp is dangling a lucrative offer to Pacquiao, he won’t be surprised if Pacquiao doesn’t take the offer.
“It’s a risky fight for him to take,” Dib told the boxing website. “He has just won a big fight with Carlos Navarro and he will be getting big offers in the USA. He wants to make as much money as he can because he knows if he fought me, he would lose his belt.”
Dib, the IBO Asia-Pacific junior-lightweight titleholder, said he has already figured out Pacquiao’s style. (GCM)
