Beach volley, dance contest okayed

The Cebu Schools and Athletic Foundation Inc. gave the nod to beach volleyball and dancesport in its calendar after a meeting at the University of the Visayas yesterday.

“It’s official – dancesport and beach volley are in,” University of Cebu athletic director Bernard Ricablanca said.

The meeting also identified the host schools for the Cesafi’s other events, which start on Aug. 21.

Venue

“The duty of the host school is to organize the tournament and identify the tournament director. They will also be in charge of the venue,” Ricablanca said.

Southwestern University is in charge of beach volleyball and volleyball, while UC will take care of athletics, table tennis and dancesport.

Lawn tennis and badminton will be hosted by the University of the Visayas, Don Bosco Technological Center is in charge of football and chess, and the University of San Carlos will have swimming.

Meanwhile, after years of dominating athletics in the Collegiate division, UC coach Priciliano Capampangan is not optimistic of his wards’ chances this year.

New athletes

“I have so many new athletes, I don’t think we can dominate this year,” Capampangan said.

Although he assured his wards have been practicing daily and that his new athletes are mostly winners in the Central Visayas Athletic Association (Cviraa), he said his team is not as strong as last year.

“We’re not that strong,” he said, “but in the high-school division, we are still very strong.”
