Popcom to celebrate World Population Day
Theme is “Equality Empowers.” This year’s celebration aims to increase public awareness and generate support for important population and development issues. The theme is centered on equality among men and women.
To disseminate the information widely, Popcom, in coordination with the Remedios Aids Foundation and the local government units in the region, will hold various activities, such as press conferences, kapihan, radio guestings, fora and orientation on the population management program.
Empowerment Project
Meanwhile, to facilitate the provision of Sexuality and Adolescent Reproductive Health (SARH) services, the project called “Community-Based Empowerment Program to Develop ARH Advocates Among Out-of-School Youths (OSY) in Cebu City” will be launched on July 12 at the Cebu City Hall grounds along with the World Population Day celebration.
A ceremonial signing of commitment and an awarding of winners in the logo and slogan contests will be the highlight of the activity.
The project is initiated by the Remedios Aids Foundation, in coordination with Popcom, Cebu City United Vendors Association (CCUVA), Cebu City Health Office (CHO), Department of Health, Cebu City Multi-Sectoral Aics Council (CCMSAC) and the local government units of Cebu city with funding assistance from the United Nations for Population Fund (UNFPA).
It piloted the seven communities of Cebu city: Camputhaw, Labangon, Pasil, Barrio Luz, Ermita, Kamagayan and San Nicolas.
The youth initiative aims to strengthen the capacity of young people as advocates of SARH concerns. It will run for three to five years.
