Cebuanos sweep top 3 spots
Cebuanos copped all three RP spots staked to the World Scrabble Championship after ruling the Philippine qualifier yesterday.
John Edward Tabasa led the Cebuanos’ campaign after ruling the National Scrabble Championships yesterday at SM City North in Quezon City.
Joining Tabasa to the world championship is his University of the Visayas teammate Teodoro Martus Jr., who secured the first runner-up spot in the national event. The event drew the top word wizards of the country, including four of the best players of Cebu.
Martus is the UV team captain and a former national champion like Tabasa.
Completing the Cebuano sweep is another former national champion, Renante dela Cerna, who took third spot.
De la Cerna also finished third in the recently-concluded 2005 Philippine Open Scrabble Championship in San Fernando City, La Union.
The three will make up the Philippine contingent to the prestigious international tournament.
The rest of the ranking and complete scores of the National Scrabble Championships were not available at press time. (JCT)
