Mantawi tramples CDO five

ARDY Larong almost single-handedly erased the 15-point deficit and Ronald Capati finished the job as the Mantawi Sparkling Kights pulled a come-from-behind 94-85 win over host Cagayan de Oro Stars in the NBC at the Xavier University Gym Saturday.

After missing potential tying free throws that led to an 87-89 loss against the Cavite Insurers at home, Larong scored 20 second-half points, including 12 straight late in the third quarter, to complete Mantawi’s comeback and take the lead at 65-63 for the first time in the game.

Career high

Larong scored a career-high 32 points as he shot 13-of-20 from the field and 3-of-5 from the 3-point area on top of seven rebounds, four assists and three steals.

Capati took over in the final quarter, executing a dunk before the buzzer, as he fired 12 points, eight straight in one stretch, to give the Hapee/Dewfoam backed Mantawi a seven-point cushion, 85-77, with 2:35 remaining.

The Stars went off to a blistering start behind new recruits Balong Ramos and former SIT Skyblazer Ronan Isidro, who both scored 14 points in the first half, to post a 36-21 lead.

However, they failed to stop Larong and Capati in the second half as they fell to their third loss in four games.

The foul-troubled Capati finished with 22 points (9-of-13), four rebounds, one assist and one steal, while Marvin Tundag added 13 points and seven rebounds.

Mantawi (94) – Larong 32, Capati 22, Tundag 13, Gloria 10, Moreño 6, Limbo 4, Sereño 3, Carretas 2, Huelar 2. CDO (85) – Ramos 26, Isidro 22, Dela Victoria 12, Daep 9, Malonzo 6, Tadena 4, Culdora 4, Romaguera 2. Quarterscores: 19-28; 43-50; 67-65; 91-85. RCM
