Robber whacks collector, driver, grabs cash, phone

A money lending collector and her motorcycle driver sustained head injuries after a robber hit them on the head with a piece of wood and ran away with their collections last Monday afternoon in Danao City.

The victims were on board a motorcycle when the robber, who was waiting for them to pass, struck the two, causing them to fall off the motorcycle.

The heist was pulled off in a secluded area in Barangay Tuburan Sur, Danao City at about 5:20 p.m.

Jane Miranda, 24, collector for Lita’s Lending based on N. Bacalso Ave. in Cebu City, lost her bag containing the P6,000 collection to the robber, whose face was covered with cloth.

Miranda also lost her Nokia 8250 cellular phone and her own P2,500 cash.

Miranda and her driver Junrel Jayme, 18, sustained wounds in their foreheads. They were rushed to the Danao City General Hospital and were later moved to a hospital in Cebu City.

SPO4 Jose Salingua of the Danao City Police Station said they are eyeing the possibility of a debtor as the one behind the heist.

They believe the debtor was denied a loan, since the company had refused several debtors who still had outstanding accounts with them.

Salingua said it was also possible the man was not alone and that he had a lookout that the two victims failed to see.

He said the assailants were probably familiar with the routine of the two collectors. The lending company has been collecting in the area for 10 years.

Since the area was secluded, the perpetrators managed to flee without being seen.

Police are still conducting follow-up investigations in the area. (MEA)
