Pacquiao bags GAB’s monthly plum
Largely due to his resounding upset of Mexican Carlos Navarro last month, Bobby Pacquiao has been named the Games and Amusements Board’s (GAB) Boxer of the Month for June.
GAB’s decision to award its monthly honor to Pacquiao, who wrested the World Boxing Council (WBC) Continental America super-featherweight belt from Navarro via a seventh-round KO, was publicly announced yesterday by GAB Boxing Division chief Emmanuel Flores.
Pacquiao, now under a new management teem that consists of California-based Michael Koncz and his older brother Manny, is now in line to fight in a high-profile undercard in a September promotion featuring heavyweight champ Vitali Klitschko.
“We are presently negotiating with Tom Loeffler for Bobby to fight on Sept. 24 on the undercard of heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko,” Koncz was quoted by seconds.out.com.
Koncz earlier declared that he and co-manager Manny Pacquiao has already advised Bobby to relinquish his Philippine super-featherweight crown and concentrate on more lucrative fights in the US.
“In the event that we are not able to reach an agreement with Tom for the Sept. 24 bout, it is anticipated that Bobby will fight on the undercard when Manny fights an undetermined opponent possibly on Sept. 10 in Los Angeles, California.” (GCM)
