World No.4 duo to join Cebu tilt

The organizers’ marketing blitz for the 1st Cebu International Dancesport Federation Open Championship has hit pay dirt after one of the world’s top couples sent feelers to join the tournament this November at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel.

Last April, Team Cebu City- Dancesport advertised the tournament during events in Australia and other parts of Asia.

TCC-Dancesport secretariat April Tudtud said that Danish couple Peter Sokkerbroe and Kristina Juel-Stokkebroe sent an e-mail to convey their intent to join the event, which will be held after the 23rd Southeast Asian Games.

A check with the official website of the International Dancesport Federation showed that the couple is ranked No.4 in the world in the Latin category.

Problem

“We are very excited with this development,” Tudtud said.

However, the organizers will have to answer a pressing need first before the couple can join the Cebu tournament.

Tudtud said that it has been the practice of Dancesport organizers all over the world to shoulder the airfare of the worlds top five dancers when they compete in a tournament.

So far, Tudtud said that they are considering the offer and might also ask the help of other organizers in Australia and Singapore.

Before the 1st Cebu IDSF Open, another tournament will be held in Australia, while another one in Singapore will be staged a week after.

“We are thinking of maybe splitting it three ways since they will also be joining these tournaments,” Tudtud said. (ML)
