Cebu X to go on despite RP crisis
The political crisis in the country won’t affect the Cebu Furniture Industries Foundation Inc.’s (CFIF) preparations and expectations for the Cebu International Furniture and Furnishings Exhibition (Cebu X) 2006.
In a press conference at the Teatro Casino Filipino Thursday, Cebu X 2005 chairman Michael Basubas said the CFIF expects many buyers, whatever the outcome of the crisis may be, since the CFIF has plans of “rais(ing) the bar of excellence” of the annual furniture exhibit.
“The buyers’ attendance during the Cebu X this year was not affected by the bombings (in Makati, General Santos and Davao in February), which happened a few days before the opening of Cebu X 2005,” he said.
President Gloria Arroyo has been under attack over allegations she cheated to win the May 2004 elections.
Cebu X 2006 fairs management team overall chairman Eric Mendoza said a committee will concentrate on how to improve every aspect of the show, including the use of raw materials by exhibitors and the improvement of services to buyers and exhibitors.
The new services will include tying up with forwarders to handle the products of the exhibitors and pre-arranging flights of exhibitors to get discounts.
Basubas said the CFIF has allocated 35 percent or P6.5 million of the event’s total budget to promotions. It will also join furniture shows abroad, like in Spain, Japan and the emerging market of Las Vegas City.
The CFIF aims to draw 140 exhibitors for the Feb. 26–March 1, 2006 show at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino. (JBN)
