2 officers caught gambling at work

Two policemen of the Mandaue City Police Office (MCPO) were caught gambling while on duty last Thursday afternoon.

MCPO Director Pablo Florante Lamosao refused to name the policemen, saying the two are still under investigation. He assured, though, that he will impose sanctions, if needed.

The two policemen of the Mobile Patrol Unit (MPU) are still on duty while the investigation is ongoing.

Deputy City Director Emmanuel Ughoc, who also heads the MPU, was informed Thursday that MCPO’s Nissan Terrano was parked near the abandoned Uniwide warehouse at the reclamation area.

Around 2:30 p.m., Ughoc found the two policemen and confiscated playing cards and P93 in bets.

Lamosao has tasked Insp. Ramon Villar of the intelligence and investigation division to look into the case.

Villar was given one week to submit a report to Lamosao.

The investigation will initially establish the policemen’s violation.

If the violation committed will warrant dismissal, the case will be forwarded to the Police Regional Office 7 for summary dismissal proceedings.

But if the violation is not so grave, the case will be dealt with at Lamosao’s level.

The MPU has at least eight Nissan Terranos.

Each vehicle is given a specific route to patrol on a 24-hour basis.

In the case of the policemen Ughoc caught last Thursday, the Uniwide warehouse was not part of their route.

Last year, the Mandaue City Government rented Terranos and multicabs for increased police visibility in the barangays and commercial districts.

Mandaue City Mayor Thadeo Ouano entered into a P11.388-million lease contract with Rdak Transport Equipment for the vehicles.

Under the lease contract, the rental for each police vehicle is P800 for every eight-hour shift. The City is renting them for three shifts daily.

The rental for each multicab is P400 for every eight-hour shift. The City is renting the multicabs for two shifts daily. (AAG)
