Bank unit to serve IT needs of public, finance sectors

DCI, the wholly owned subsidiary of the Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP), will now serve the information technology (IT) needs of the finance sector and public offices, such as government agencies, local government units (LGUs) and state colleges and universities.

From just serving the IT needs of its mother company, DCI was spun off beginning last year to become a company that serves the IT needs of other companies in the public and finance sector, according to DCI marketing executive Jherlie Cheng.

She told Sun.Star Cebu that DCI is marketing its services to the public sector outside Metro Manila.

DCI is now doing IT-related work for the LGUs of Toledo and Bogo, Cheng said.

DCI, which was established 23 years ago, provides a wide range of IT services, such as public and finance sector processes, project management, consulting, requirements management, system analysis or design, programming, software engineering, help desk, contact center, software package customation and web portal development, according to a statement.

“Business process outsourcing (BPO) is rapidly becoming one of the best tools of competitive organizations, as BPO reduces the organization’s high expenditure on managing activities, improves its quality of service, enhances core business capabilities and increases profitability,” DCI said.

DCI’s other clients are DBP, the Civil Service Commission (CSC) and the National Computer Center (NCC).

DCI provides IT programmers to DBP to maintain critical applications, while some 150 encoders and 30 quality assurance clerks of DCI are consolidating the records of the CSC’s more than 1.6 million civil servants all over the country.

DCI is working with NCC on the e-Government Payment Gateway Project or e-Pay, one of the major components of the e-Government Portal project, which aims to provide a convenient payment facility via the Internet and mobile phones for government agencies and citizens. (JBN)
