Wong logs jungolf best
By Mike T. Limpag

This early, they might just give the Ladies title of the 1st Vismin- Samsung Interscholastic Golf Tournament to Jyrah Wong.

The 16-year-old sensation from the Center for International Education carded the day’s best of 51 points after going 1-under par in the back nine to lead the ladies division yesterday at the Cebu Country Club. She is three ahead of younger sister Hannah Wong, who scored a personal-best 48 yesterday.

Jyrah’s 51 is the best score by a jungolfer in recent years in a national tournament, said CCC Jungolf chairman Jovy Neri.

With still 36 holes to go, Wong is sure to clinch the lead as third-placer Naomi Tatara only has 23 points.

Boys division

In the Boys division, Edsel Tan shot a round of 50 to top the field and stay ahead of Charles Uy and Bacolod’s Chepe Dulay, who both shot 47.

In the Boys Grade School division, Vijay Vasandani III took the No.1 spot going into today’s second round after scoring 41, two ahead of Lorenzo Almario and Raphael Wong, who both had 39.

Meanwhile, former jungolf standouts Mark Anthony Dy and Blake Go renewed their rivalry after tying for the lead in the Collegiate division with 46 points.

Dy is a PAL Interclub regular, while Go is the reigning Coral Tee champion.

In the Collegiate team play, the University of San Carlos is on top with 118 points after Efren Gica and Aljun Llanos scored 45 and 27, respectively.

In the High School team competition, Sacred Heart School-Jesuit is on top of the Boys cluster with 124 points, while CIE leads the Ladies.

Uy’s 47 led SHS-J, which also got a stellar showing from Franz Olea with 40 and Franz Ian Dy with 37. Trailing at second is Paref-Springdale’s 82, made up of Francis Jereza’s 33, Adriel Tan’s 28 and Anthony Ong’s 21.
