87 Emmy Nominations for Studio 23 and ABS-CBN shows

Shows from Studio 23 and ABS-CBN received a grand total of 87 nominations from the 57th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards, which will be presented at primetime ceremonies in Los Angeles on September 18 (September 19, Manila time).

Desperate Housewives was the most-nominated comedy show of this current crop of nominees with 15 nominations, including a Best Comedy Series nod.

However, only three of the four main Housewives were honored with nominations – Marcia Cross (Bree Van De Kamp), Teri Hatcher (Susan Meyers) and Felicity Huffman (Lynette Scavo) all have a chance to win Best Actress Emmys; but co-star Eva Longoria (Gabrielle Solis) was shut out.

Lost was the most-nominated drama with 12 nominations, including one for Best Drama Series, Best Writing for a Drama Series, and two Supporting Actor nominations for Naveen Andrews (Sayid) and Terry O’Quinn (Locke). Series creator J.J.

Abrams also received recognition for his earlier series, Alias, which got nominations in the technical categories, as well as a well-deserved acting nod for series star Jennifer Garner. A resurgent 24, now airing on ABS-CBN, followed Lost’s record with an impressive 11 nominations, including a nod as Best Drama Series, as well as yet another nomination for series star and producer Kiefer Sutherland. 24 also received nominations in cinematography and editing categories.

Will & Grace led the comedy nominations with an impressive 15 nominations. This nominated season – W&G’s seventh – is premiering on Studio 23 this August. Also notable was the inclusion of new comedy heavyweight Two and a Half Men, which received six overall nominations,

Studio 23’s The Amazing Race and Survivor got a combined 10 nominations.

CSI: Crime Scene Investigation scored with five nominations, including one for Best Directing for a Drama Series for the fifth season finale Grave Danger and its special guest director, Quentin Tarantino. Political drama The West Wing still proved potent in its sixth season, which is also set to premiere in August on Studio 23, wrangling five nominations, most notably for Best Drama and Best Supporting Actor for Alan Alda.

Upcoming ABS-CBN series The Shield received two major acting nominations, one in the Best Actress race for new cast addition Glenn Close, and another for CCH Pounder in the Supporting Actress derby.

Superhero series Smallville and Justice League Unlimited and upcoming fantasy miniseries Legend of Earthsea complete Studio 23’s nominations with 1 nod each.
