3 fall in dawn raid

Three people were arrested and over 50 assorted packs of shabu and sniffing paraphernalia were confiscated when authorities raided houses in a mountain barangay in Cebu City at 4:15 a.m. yesterday.

Suspected drug pushers Demosthenes Bontuyan, Crisilda Miñoza and Arestone Bontuyan were arrested in their houses in Sitio Dita, Pulangbato when the Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Bureau (CIIB) implemented search warrants the Regional Trial Courts issued.

Joseph Velasquez, also subject of a search warrant, managed to elude CIIB Chief Pablo Labra II and his men.

‘Little Pasil'

The place is considered “little Pasil” because of what police found as rampant distribution of shabu.

Found inside the house of Demosthenes were 20 small packs of shabu and sniffing paraphernalia. Seven medium packs of shabu were also seized from Miñoza’s house.

Police also seized 13 medium packs of shabu from Arestone’s house.

Although Velasquez escaped, authorities found 10 packs of shabu in different sizes, sniffing paraphernalia and two dried leaves of marijuana.

Talamban Police Station Chief Marlou Martinez, who assisted in intelligence gathering and monitoring, said the suspects are considered “active players” in the drug trade.

Level 3

They belong to the third level category, or those that could dispose less than 200 grams of shabu per week.

Martinez said Demos-thenes and Arestone were previously arrested for the same offense. Miñoza’s arrest yesterday was a first.

The police said the suspects’ market does not only cover Sitio Dita but also includes other sitios and barangays.

Most of their clients, who also serve as runners, are reportedly habal-habal drivers. (JST)
