Victims, bystanders take turns beating up 3 jeepney robbers

Three jeepney robbers ran out of luck yesterday morning when police caught up with them, and their victims and bystanders took turns in beating them up.

The three suspects, identified as Rowen Secretaria, Romaldo Tabura and Archiel Ygot, were arrested minutes after pulling a heist inside a Colon-bound jeepney from Labangon.

Supt. Julius Cesar Gornez was driving a patrol car when the victims flagged him down at the corner N. Bacalso Ave. and Tres de Abril St. and asked him to follow the jeepney boarded by the suspects. Gornez called for backup.

Chase

The suspects had taken another jeepney after robbing passengers of the first jeepney of their cellular phones.

The victims boarded the patrol car and they, along with Gornez, checked all the jeepneys they passed to find the robbers.

Upon reaching B. Aranas corner Figuerroa Sts., the passengers and Gornez spotted the suspects aboard a Colon-bound jeepney and flagged down the vehicle.

Responding policemen detailed at the Cebu City Traffic Police assisted Gornez in arresting the suspects.

Several passengers, bystanders and the victims ganged up on the suspects before police managed to bring the three to the City Traffic Operations Management Office.

The suspects admitted to the offense and confessed to having pulled of several jeepney robberies already.

They said poverty and lack of opportunity to find a job forced them to resort to robbery. (JST)
