Mandaue to showcase products in business month
A showcase of Mandaue’s products and services to attract investors and to help boost the city’s industries will be the focus of this year’s observance of Mandaue Business Month (MBM).
During a courtesy visit at the office of Mandaue City Mayor Thadeo Ouano, Mandaue Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) president Eric Mendoza announced that the MBM 2005, which kicked off Thursday, will include activities that will help boost the city’s industries, such as furniture and food.
“We will highlight what Mandaue has to offer as an industrial hub. Food conglomerates, big furniture companies, big exporters are all in Mandaue. They create jobs, generate dollars, and have a vital contribution to our economy,” said Mendoza in an interview with Sun.Star Cebu. The MCCI is spearheading the MBM 2005.
Among the activities in the month-long celebration is a business forum on Aug. 24, where Department of Finance Secretary Margarito Teves will speak on the country’s economic outlook and will give his insights on issues, such as what to expect in the country’s economy, the relationship between the government and the private sector, how Mandaue City can benefit from the plans and programs of the national government, and major concerns of key industries.
Mandaue City Administrator Serafin Blanco will also talk on investment opportunities in Mandaue, investment incentives and requirements, and the impact of investments and exports.
Implementing a faster and more convenient way of getting a business permit and its renewal are among the concerns of businessmen.
The business forum will also include discussions on franchising and credit financing for small and medium enterprises (SMEs).
“One of MCCI’s thrusts is to encourage our SMEs to come out (from the informal sector). We will give them importance because they are the ones who need much help,” Mendoza said.
He said there are many small businesses in Mandaue that don’t know how to legitimize their business operations.
A trade fair and exhibit will also be one of the highlights of the MBM 2005. Mendoza said it will feature the best companies in Mandaue and will showcase their exemplary performance in observing and implementing best practices in running their businesses.
Some of the companies that will be featured are Shemberg Marketing Corp., a carrageenan (processed seaweed) specialist; San Miguel Corp., for its environmental management excellence; and Matimco Inc., for its productivity development and enhancement programs. (ALC)
