Tourist center opens in Alburquerque, Bohol

THE Tourist Center has been launched by Bohol Balai Inc. in Alburquerque, Bohol to promote its locally made dry goods and delicacies.

“The center, one of the stops of tourists going to the famous destinations like Loboc River and Chocolate Hills, is a destination itself,” Lyndon Angan, president and general manager of Bohol Balai Inc., said in an interview last Saturday.

The 5,000-square-meter Tourist Center is not only a store but it also houses the production areas of the town’s local industries like basket making, pottery making, broom making, loom weaving, salt making, and calamay making and tourists could see the actual production.

“It will make them (tourists) appreciate more our products and creativity. Our buyers can also be assured of the cleanliness and freshness of our special delicacies like calamay,” Angan said.

Bohol Balai Inc. partnered with the local government of the municipality of Alburquerque for this business venture to provide its residents with livelihood.

“We in the private sector provide marketing ideas while the local government of Alburquerque encourages local residents working on their backyard to relocate to the Tourist Center to increase their visibility, accessibility and sales by giving them direct contact with buyers and exporters,” he added.

Alburquerque, which is 12 kilometers from Tagbilaran City, supplies a number of exporters in Cebu with its semi-processed products made of buri, said Alburquerque Mayor Efren Tungol.

Tungol said from January, which is when Cebu City celebrates the Sinulog Festival, up to summer time is when Cebu has higher demand for semi-processed products.

The tourist center that targets foreign and domestic travelers and Bohol’s local residents also features carabao rides, cockfighting and a butterfly garden.

Angan told Sun.Star Cebu that Bohol Balai will launch its online store and an outlet in Ortigas before the end of this year.

However, they have no plans of tapping the Cebu market yet. ALC
