USC wows Malaysia

THE University of San Carlos (USC) Dance Troupe added another feather in its cap when it was chosen by Counseil International Des Organizations De Festivals De Folklire D’ Arts Traditionnels (CIOFF, Philippines) to represent the Philippines to its launching last July 2.

Nene Pacana, choreographer and artistic director, Dolly Suzara, adviser and consultant, together with Nimfa Alo, liaison officer and head of the Office of Student Affairs, accompanied the group.

The event showcased various cultural art performances from Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand, South Korea, China as well as the different ethnic and race groups of Malaysia. Approximately 3,800 performers joined the annual affair.

It was on the launching of “Citrawarna Malaysia 2005” that the USC Dance Troupe captivated the hearts of many people as they danced the Sinulog at the Meredka Stadium in their colorful Maria Clara costumes.

Among the distinguished guests were the King and Queen of Malaysia, the Prime Minister and the Minister of Tourism. Reporters from channels BBC, CNN and AXN enjoyed interviewing the dancers as they were impressed by their articulateness and facility in the English language.

But it wasn’t only on opening night that the group wowed Kuala Lumpur. They also presented one-hour shows at the malls particularly at South City Plaza and Songai Wang Mall. They kept the audience in awe with their grace and skill in dancing, especially the singkil and tinikling.

Truly, they made the country proud and most especially USC as they waved their banner with the USC Dance Troupe’s name and Cebu City, Philippines printed on it.

As the Philippine ambassadors of goodwill, they have conquered the hearts of people from halfway around the globe. Everything they have achieved to make a name for USC, including the most recent mission, they owe it to the USC administration, Carolinians, Inc., Sinulog Foundation, Inc., CIOFF Philippines and to the entire USC community for moral and financial support.
