Team of triathletes sweep titles of Enduro adventure race Cebu leg

MEMBERS of team T.W.O. ruled both divisions of the first-ever Cebu leg of the Enduro San Mig Light Adventures 2005.

Cebuano triathletes Nogie Biagan and Mylene Jarina and teammate Rodulfo Verdida emerged as the toughest and fastest trio in the Elite division of the race, which started and finished at SM City-Cebu.

Biagan, Jarina and Verdida brushed aside the challenges of unfamiliar terrain, while having to do rappelling, kayaking and spelunking as they treaded SM City-Cebu’s parking area ahead of everybody else in taking home the plum in the premier Elite and the P25,000 cash prize.

Their teammates – University of the Visayas’ Gerrie Calinawan and his fellow triathletes Louie Villasin and Neil Reyes, all neophytes in adventure racing – duplicated their Elite teammates’ accomplishment by conquering the Novice division.

Danao Sports of national mountainbike team members Maritess Bitbit and Eric Feleciano, both mountainbike silver medalists in the Vietnam Southeast Asian Games, and Roland Pasaol, finished second in the Elite category.

From Dumaguete

Orient Wind Hayahay of Dumaguete City, which was manned by Eunel Matula, Christopher Eyao and one-time national mountainbike training pool member Jasmine Lasota, was third.

Placing second in the Novice division was Dakoykoy 2005 of Ramir Batumalake, Leilani Batumalake and Alvin Opluntisima, while Dumaguete City’s Outdoors Cuernos of Jaclyn Parreno, Ian and John Paul Sola landed third.

The Cebu leg followed the kick-off leg at the highlands of Baguio last July 16. The next stop for the Enduro San Mig Light Adventures 2005 will be the grand finale on Sept. 17 in Metro Manila.
