Pearl 2 joins San Carlos in training exec directors
The Private Enterprise Accelerated Resource Linkages (Pearl) Project Phase 2 of the Canadian International Development Agency (Cida) has signed an agreement with the University of San Carlos (USC) for a partnership on Pearl 2’s executive director (ED) series.
The ED series, which was launched in May, is part of the sectoral enhancement (SE) component of Pearl 2. The ED series aims to help various industries upgrade the management capabilities of their business support organizations (BSO) by funding the training of their executive directors, according to a statement.
As of June this year, 13 executive directors, including the executive director of the Cebu-GTH (gifts, toys and houseware) Manufacturers and Exporters Association, have attended seven training sessions covering various management topics conducted in Manila and Cebu.
The SE component also started working on the 2005 edition of the state of the sector reports by commencing a survey, which aims to gather important information on the status of the firms that help provide an indication on the present state of their industries.
Meanwhile, Pearl 2’s other components, the capacity development for investment promotion (CDIP) and the partnership development facility (PDF), also have their own projects.
The CDIP is now working on gathering background information on the five investment promotion centers (IPCs), excluding the Cebu Investment Promotion Center, covered by the CDIP. The data obtained from the IPCs will be used to help develop a profile of their management and organizational capabilities.
The PDF, on the other hand, continues to partner with local chambers, such as the Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry for BSO projects that help improve the productivity and product quality of their member-companies. (JBN)
