Cebu tour guides fail to get Korean market
Cebu tour guides are still not able to serve the Korean tourists in Cebu despite acquiring the skill to speak and understand the Korean language because the Koreans prefer to be guided by Koreans.
According to Cebu Association of Tour Guides (Cat-g) president Rafael Tura, Koreans hire Korean tour guides, limiting the association’s more than 130 members to serving only the Japanese, Chinese and the few European tourists.
According to records of Cebu visitor arrivals of the Department of Tourism 7, the Koreans still topped the list, reaching a total of 46, 818 during the first five months of the year.
On the sidelines of Cat-g’s meeting with the management of Ayala Center Cebu (ACC) last Wednesday, Tura expressed hope that Cebu would get more tourists.
“We need more tourists so that we will survive,” he said.
The Cat-g has been working with the ACC on the mall’s programs to give better services to tourists.
Joy Polloso, ACC marketing manager, said ACC will improve its four-year program of giving incentives to tourists and tour guides who are patronizing the mall.
During the consultation, the Cat-g suggested new services that the mall could offer tourists.
These include a lounge or smoking area, proper directional signs, mall maps and lockers for rent. (JBN)
