Batawang to fight Suelo next month

World Boxing Association (WBA) Pan-African light-flyweight champion Bert Batawang and New Generation ALA Boy Ceasar Amonsot display their wares as they headline another Sammy G. Gello-ani double-header card on Sept. 3 at the Mandaue City Sports Complex.

Batawang will fight Pan-Asian Boxing Association 108-pound No.4 Niño Suelo, while Amonsot will take on RP No.7 Christopher Saluday, both bouts for 10 rounds.

Batawang, who holds a 34-11-3 win-loss-draw ring record with 27 KOs, is coming off three straight knockout wins after losing to Shingo Yamaguchi by unanimous decision in August 2004 for the OPBF light-flyweight belt.

Batawang won his WBA belt after knocking out Sithembele Kibiti in the seventh round last Nov. 20, 2004, followed by another seventh-round KO over Robert Rubillar on April 30 and a second-round TKO over Elmer Muyco last June 11.

Batawang, who is the IBO No.15, IBF No.5, WBA No.10, WBO Asia-Pacific No.1, Paba No.2 and WBC No.20, will put his international ranking at stake against the Paba No.4 Suelo.

Suelo, on the other hand, is a journeyman whose last fight was a technical draw with Donnie Nietes last July 30 in San Andres, Manila.

Meanwhile, Amonsot is on a roll. After suffering a controversial loss to Simon Butar-Butar in Indonesia last Feb. 15, the 20-year-old Tagbilaran City-native went undefeated in his next five fights, including a draw with Joey Ricardo last March 22, a four-round TKO against Syamsul Hidayat last April 12 and a unanimous decision win in a rematch against Leed Shabu last May 14 at the RCTI Studio in Jakarta, Indonesia.
