Timex chooses Cebu over China

Cebu, Philippines might soon become the center of operations of multinational company Timex Corp. as it plans to consolidate its operations and expand only its manufacturing plant in the province.

Joe Santana, president and chief executive officer of Connecticut-based Timex Corp., told a press conference last Wednesday at the Shangri-La’s Mactan Island Resort and Spa, that the company’s plans are centered on Timex Philippines, located at the Mactan Economic Zone 1 despite the political crisis in the country.

Aside from Timex’s established business relationship with the Philippines, Santana said Timex prefers to expand in the Philippines than in China because the workforce is stable and has the ability to speak and understand English, as well as learn skills. (JBN)
