Carolinians attend int’l. convention of Lions Clubs
Charter members of the University of San Carlos (USC) Campus Lions Club attended the 88th Lions Clubs International Convention held in Hong Kong recently.
Derek C. Go, Christopher G. Yap and Cheryl Lim Go were among the 13,000 Lions who participated in the meeting that drew representatives from 100 countries and geographic areas around the world.
Among the highlights of the convention was a Parade of Nations featuring 9,000 Lions from 100 countries, many in native dress, who marched along with floats and 25 marching bands. Attendees also heard Manuel Scott deliver the keynote address.
The Lions Humanitarian Award was presented to Arnall Patz, M.D., researcher and teacher of ophthalmology. The award includes US$200,000 for continuing humanitarian work.
Convention delegates attended workshops, learned about important issues facing communities around the world, elected international officers, voted on constitutional amendments and helped set the future direction for Lions Club International. Attendees also met with members from around the world for a week of fellowship.
Go is the 2005-2006 president of the USC Campus Lions Club, which meets every second Wednesday of the month.
