Congress on pediatric diseases set next year

The Asian Congress of Pediatric Infectious Diseases (Acpid), now on its third time since its kick-off in Pattaya, Thailand in 2002, will be held in Cebu city at the Waterfront International Convention Center on March 7-10, 2006.

Theme is “Pediatric Infections in the 21st Century: Meeting the Challenges.”

Topics to be tackled are emerging pediatric infections to antibiotic resistance, new antibiotics vaccines, and other infection control measures to be discussed by eminent international, regional, and local speakers.

The scientific program will include plenary sessions, symposia, free paper, poster sessions and workshops.

The event will be co-hosted by the Philippine Infectious Disease Society of the Philippines (PIDSP) and the Philippine Pediatric Society-Cebu Central and Eastern Visayas Chapter (PPS-CCEV).

Registration fee for Filipino delegates is P2,000 while onsite registration fee is P3,000. Deadline of registration is on or before Nov. 30.

Infectious diseases continue to be a leading cause of morbidity and mortality in many developing countries in Asia. It is in this light that the Asian Society for Pediatric Diseases was organized in 1994, with headquarters in Manila, to promote the advancement of knowledge and expertise in the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of pediatric infectious diseases in Asia.

It conducts congresses, seminars, workshops and other scientific meetings, and encourages collaborative national and multinational researches on pediatric infectious diseases of high priority.

Held every two years, the congress aims to disseminate knowledge and create awareness among Asian healthcare workers through discussion of both current and future issues in pediatric infectious diseases that are relevant in the Asian setting.

Interested parties may register at the PPS-CCEV, c/o Dr. Cheryl Bullo, Acpid assistant treasurer, BOP Business Center, One Gothong Place, J. Llorente st.

For inquiries, one may call Cindy Tampus or Caryl Lauron at (032) 253-9654, telefax 412-3989, 0915-9930309 or log on to www.asianpids.org.
