Seares: Clavel, Gwen By Cheking Seares News(boy) Sense
Clavel put one over Gwen.
Or, if we tinker with the idiom to be more accurate, Clavel put two over Gwen.
I'm referring to the face-off at Wednesday's House committee hearing between Rep. Clavel Martinez and Gov. Gwen Garcia over the issue of cutting up Cebu and creating three new provinces out of the butchered parts.
First, Clavel shook up Gwen by calling her Mrs. Gwendolyn Garcia Codilla.
Gwen corrected Clavel: She is Gwendolyn Fiel Garcia, her marriage has been annulled, which Clavel casually "noted."
Gwen still looked cool but inwardly she must have been seething.
Rude
Then Clavel talked with a seatmate as Gwen was answering a question from another House member why Sugbuak would be disastrous.
Taking the foul bait, Gwen stopped to ask Clavel if the congresswoman had a question.
She didn't have any. Clavel said, "continue." Gwen said she was talking and she was rudely interrupted.
As if on cue, Clavel said she was not interrupting the governor and then moved to adjourn the hearing, which, she said, was non-debatable. Snooty
A guest at congressional hearings is not treated like a guest. He or she can be humiliated in ways only legislators seem capable of. Watch those ANC shows and you'll think there's nobody more snooty than a legislator grilling their guest.
Gwen blew up, which fitted into Clavel's plan not to give her political enemies' cause fair hearing.
