Bautista to fight Colombian ‘hitman’ in Pacquiao undercard

The dotted lines have been signed for Rey “Boom-Boom” Bautista to fight a Colombia heavy hitter in his first fight in mainland US.

Bautista, the 19-year-old WBO Asia-Pacific bantamweight champion from Candijay, Bohol, will fight Felix Flores-Murillo of Valledupar, Colombia in an eight-round supporting bout of the Top Rank card “Double Trouble” that will feature three 12-round fights at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.

Mexican Eric Morales will fight US Olympian Zahir Raheem, while Filipino superstar Manny Pacquiao will take on Hector Velasquez in the featured events of the Sept. 10 card.

The other 12-rounder is between Hawaii’s Brian Viloria and World Boxing Council light-flyweight champion Mexican Eric Ortiz.
However, only Pacquiao and Morales’ fights will be shown pay-per-view on HBO.

Record

Flores-Murillo is 13-4-1 with 11 KO wins according to a record supplied by Bautista’s management team obtained from the members-only website FightFax.com.

The Colombian scored seven straight knockouts from his debut and went undefeated until his 15th fight, when he was knocked out by Alejandro Becera in New Mexico – his first fight outside Colombia.

He suffered three more defeats in the US, the last by decision to Fernando Beltran on July 21.

“Enclosed is the complete fight record of Felix Flores Murillo as published on FightFax.com – which is more complete unlike that of boxrec.com,” Bautista’s manager Antonio Aldeguer said in an e-mail.

Sparring sessions

“This is also the same fight record Top Rank submitted to the California Boxing Commission for approval of the fight between Bautista and Murillo.”

The Boholano phenom is currently training at the Wildcard Gym under the watchful eyes of Freddie Roach.

The other day, the undefeated Bautista sparred with Viloria then against an unnamed Brazilian bantamweight campaigner. His next sparring session is with IBF featherweight champion Israel Velasquez. (RCM)
