Amnesty ends Sept. 30 for SSS short-term loan

Social Security System (SSS) members with overdue accounts have until next month to avail themselves of the amnesty for short-term loan payment delinquency that the agency has offered them.

According to SSS Central Visayas information officer Janice Caballes, SSS will accept applications for condonation only until Sept. 30.

The one-year amnesty program, which began on Oct. 1, 2004, covers penalties on delinquent salary, calamity, educational, study-now-pay-later, vocational and technical loans.

Caballes told Sun.Star Cebu that in the past few months, SSS 7 has been processing payments of an average of 30 members daily.

The number has almost doubled as the deadline nears.

Raffles

Caballes also said some 10 SSS members from region 7 won in the electronic raffles held every four months since the start of the amnesty program.

The members availing themselves of the amnesty were given numbers for every P500 payment on their due accounts. The winners each got P5,000, which were deducted from their accounts or were given to them if their accounts were fully paid.

She said SSS members who want to pay their overdue loans without the penalties and interests could still apply personally at any SSS branch. (JBN)
