World Apostolate of Fatima to celebrate silver year
The Cebu Archdiocesan Division of the World Apostolate of Fatima (WAF) will celebrate its silver anniversary on Aug. 14 with a mini-concert during a gathering of Marian priests and hundreds of members at the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Coliseum in Basak.
The whole day activity will kick off with a holy mass at 10 a.m. to be officiated by Bishop Julito Cortes and concelebrated by more than 20 priests. This will be followed by a talk on Blessed Virgin Mary by Msgr. Cristobal Garcia, the spiritual director of the organization.
The celebration focuses on the theme, “WAF Community: Call to Contemplate and Proclaim with Mary.”
In the afternoon, the faithful will witness the return of the Sta. Maria Band and its original members and the various presentations by chapter members coming from the archdiocese.
The band, which composed and played Marian songs, was the first to organize the “Original Marian Song Festival” on the occasion of Mary’s birthday on Sept. 8, which is now on its 16th year.
Alma O. Alcaraz, president of the organization, said the original members of the band take time to reunite for this affair as their offering to Mother Mary.
The original members include Jojo Serrano, lead guitar; his brother, Ging-ging Serrano, drums; Boyie Antonio, bass; his brother, Nick Antonio, keyboard; vocalists, Frank, Ann, Pat and Maricel.
According to Alcaraz, WAF’s mission is basically to spread the message of the Blessed Virgin Mary as revealed to the three children in Fatima, Portugal: prayer through the daily rosary, consecration by wearing the brown scapular and penance by performing one’s daily duty to family and society.
