Talk back: Clavel's uncouth self By Pablo John Garcia
(The letter is addressed to Cheking Seares)
The premise, of course, of your column yesterday is that there was method in the madness of Rep. Clavel Asas Martinez (Sun.Star Cebu, News[boy] Sense).
As people who witnessed her (including members of local media) will tell you, however--the pounding on the table, the loud asides, the jumping up the seat, the unfortunate "mamon" that fell out of her hands, saying "shit" while the microphone was on--that is highly unlikely.
By bringing up Gov. Gwen Garcia’s failed marriage, and by shouting while the governor was speaking, Clavel was likely just being her petty, uncouth self.
The governor did not "blow up." There are recordings of the proceedings, and they will prove that not once did Gwen blow up or even raise her voice. And you can check this with your own reporters.
What cost the Cebuanos a fair hearing was the hearing itself. On an issue as transcendental as dividing a 436-year-old province, Rep. Emilio Macias (upon Clavel's insistence) gave the governor all of five minutes.
Not a lending firm
Reynaldo G. Jose
I would like to correct an item in the story entitled, "Lending firm of barangay councilor robbed of P100T" (Sun.Star Cebu, Top Stories, Aug. 12, 2005).
The same story also came out in Sun.Star Superbalita on the same day, entitled "Gitulis pagbisita ni Arroyo" by Charmaine P. Lirazan.
The story said that, "Sigon sa record sa Theft and Robbery Section (TRS) nga gisud og unom ka mga lalake ang lending firm ni Konsehal Rene Jose nga nahimutang sa ikaduhang andana sa ilang bay sa dan Tupas."
The firm is not a "lending firm" but a money changer.
