Central Visayas ranks third in vehicle sales in RP

CENTRAL Visayas ranked third in the number of vehicles sold in the country last year, according to the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines Inc. (Campi).

The National Capital Region was the top seller, accounting for 71.2 percent of the Philippine automotive industry’s total sales of 88,075 vehicles.

Central Luzon and Central Visayas were in second and third place, respectively. But their sales volume accounted for only 6.9 percent and 4.6 percent, respectively, of the industry’s performance.

Campi also revealed that more commercial vehicles (CVs) than passenger cars (PCs) were sold in Region 7 or Central Visayas last year.

Region 7 comprises Bohol, Cebu, Oriental Negros and Siquijor.

Some 2,663 CV units were sold in the region in 2004, while there were only 1,390 PCs sold.

In the national scene, commercial vehicles also dominated the vehicle market, accounting for 62 percent or 54,794 units of the total vehicle sales of last year.

Commercial vehicles include the Honda CRV, Toyota Revo, Mitsubishi Pajero, Nissan Terrano, Isuzu Crosswind, Ford Ranger, Mazda Tribute, Kia Sportage, Hyundai Starex and General Motors Silverado.

PCs, on other hand, are those with less passenger capacity, such as Honda Civic, Toyota Vios, Mitsubishi Lancer, Nissan Sentra, Ford Lynx, Mazda and Kia Picanto.

In Region 7, Toyota was the most preferred car brand, accounting for 31.2 percent of the region’s total industry sales.

Isuzu and Mitsubishi followed, cornering 17.4 percent and 13.6 percent, respectively, of the market. Honda was fourth in the list. JBN
