The irrepressible Renee! By Bob Lim
FOR somebody who’s only two years into her job as the Marketing Communications Manager of Waterfront Cebu City Hotel & Casino, Renee Villacin appears to have held the position far longer than that. Credit goes to her natural adaptability, the uncanny ability to perform the tasks as if she’s born to do these things.
Turning 28 years old this week, Renee finished her BS Mass Communications Major in Communication Management at the Assumption College in Makati City. Her first job was with Creatron Ads as a copywriter followed by a short stint as an assistant teacher. Then the hotel industry beckoned in 2003.
She considers her approach to fashion as pretty basic. She thinks she can take a simple outfit and make it look fabulous, with the perfect shoes, necklace or even just eyeshadow.
Let’s tune in for more of her take on the art of looking great.
How do you inject your personal style to the business suit?
I perk it up by using accessories: a brooch, jewelry or pearls, the right pair of stilettoes, and makeup!
Do you buy off-the-rack executive attire or do you have them tailored?
My suits are off-the-rack, although yes, I’d like to try having them tailored...
Areyou recognized by hotel clients when they see you in your regular day wear?
Fortunately, they do.
How casual or wacky is your wardrobe after office hours?
Casual enough for me to always feel confident and comfortable! I don’t have any outrageous tops. I’m more into a ‘trendy-classic’ kind of look. I love capris and flats... and when i go on a night out, i like it that I’m just a jeans-and-a-fancy-top kinda girl.
Are you particular about branded stuff? Please name three of your favorite labels.
Particular? No... Although I do have some favorite Cebu designers who complement my style. I’d say I’m a practical shopper and that I patronize clothing retailers. Among my favorites are Topshop, Mango and a Cebu brand - Lava.
For cosmetics, I like Shu Uemura and Shiseido.
What are your fashion ‘must-haves’ at the moment?
Jeans, stilletoes, cotton round-neck tees.
Rank according to importance (1= highest, 5=lowest) shoes, bags, cosmetics, jewelry, savings account
1 clothes (in lieu of bags) 2 savings account 3 cosmetics 4 shoes 5 jewelry
Do you feel the need to be fashionable and, in effect, invest money in your wardrobe because of your job?
Yes! In the hotel industry you meet and deal with a lot of people every day so it’s a big plus if you’re personable and fashionable. But the upshot, really, is I love dressing up because it makes me feel good about myself. And when I do, everything else follows.
