BFP official survives attack by own nephew

AN official of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP)-Central Visayas was unscathed after his teenage nephew shot at him after an argument in Barangay Apas, Cebu City last Saturday afternoon.

Chief Insp. Rodelio Damaolao, BFP 7 deputy director for operations, reported to the Mabolo Police Station that he was attacked inside his house in Sitio San Miguel, Barangay Apas.

He tagged as assailant his nephew Carlo Damao-lao, 18, who lives in Sitio Burgos, Pulang Bato, a mountain barangay in Cebu City.

Rodelio told Mabolo police investigator Riolito Jacalan that he scolded his nephew after catching him with a girlfriend inside a room in his house.

Rodelio said he advised his nephew and the girlfriend to leave the house.

Argument

Instead of heeding Rodelio’s order, Carlo talked back, triggering an argument between the two.

At the height of their argument, Carlo got hold of a .38 revolver and fired at Rodelio.

Carlo’s shot missed, giving Rodelio the chance to scamper for safety and ask help from the Mobile Patrol Group policemen.

Carlo, however, fled before police arrived.

The responding policemen conducted a manhunt but failed to arrest Carlo.

Rodelio is yet to decide whether to press charges against his nephew. JST
