Cop manning checkpoint hit by motorcycle

A POLICEMAN suffered bruises in his arms after a man rammed his motorcycle at him at a checkpoint in Poblacion, Liloan Friday afternoon.

Bermudo dela Torre, 23, had refused to stop and instead made a U-turn and hit SPO1 Danilo Latoza who was flagging him down. Dela Torre and Latoza fell to the ground.

Policemen arrested dela Torre. Leading the team from the Liloan Traffic Command that afternoon was Insp. Milo Dagasdas, Liloan police chief.

When asked why he ignored the checkpoint, dela Torre reportedly said he had no driver’s license and registration papers.

Dela Torre is from Palomo, Zamboanga del Sur and temporarily stays in Maguikay, Mandaue City.

SPO1 Rizalino Aligno, of the Liloan Police Station, said a case of attempted homicide was filed against dela Torre last Saturday.

Earlier, police arrested another man who tried to avoid the checkpoint.

Constantino Capugngan Arevalo Jr., 33, of Barangay Tugbungan, Consolacion, had a plastic pack of dried marijuana leaves tucked under his waistband.

When he saw policemen along the highway, he drove his motorcycle at top speed.

But back-up policemen caught up with Arevalo. They frisked him and found him to be carrying marijuana leaves.

He was arrested and brought to the police station. MEA
