1st Cesafi-Prisaa dancesport workshop a success

The 1st Cesafi-Prisaa Dance Sports Workshop proved very successful with eight schools in attendance as represented by the Physical Education chairmen, heads, instructors, teachers, coaches and students.

Although the main purpose of the workshop was to prepare for the Cesafi DanceSport Competitions in September, it set the precedent for more workshops geared at training Physical Education instructors/trainers and coaches in schools.

Schools represented included the University of Cebu-Main, University of Cebu-Lapu-Lapu and Mandaue, Southwestern University, University of San Jose-Recoletos, University of San Carlos, Cebu Eastern College, Silliman University and Bohol Institute of Technology.

Participants were given a rundown of the basics of dancesport, particularly the Bronze Figure Syllabus. Demonstration dances were performed by DanceSport Team Cebu City’s international gold medallists. The workshop was headed by trainer and DTCC head coach Loloi Rendon.

Instructional video

Each participating school was given a free instructional video set, containing five video compact discs of chachacha, rumba, waltz, quickstep and tango.

DanceSport director Edward Hayco said, “We will be distributing these kits with the free compact disc of DanceSport music compilation and the free instructional video sets each containing five video compact discs of chachacha, rumba, waltz, quickstep and tango to all members schools of Cesafi. This will be a rich source of reference and training material for each school’s Physical Education heads and or trainers and coaches.”

Prisaa head Fr. Vic Uy, SVD gave a message of inspiration to the participants. The expertise of Cesafi and DTCC consultants Victor Cuenco and Bernard Ricablanca also made the event successful.

The dancesport competition will be launched along with the other sports of Cesafi on Aug. 21.
