Castro plans to sue court staff for imputing that she’s a witch

Prosecutor Mary Ann Castro intends to file a complaint against a staff member of the Municipal Trial Court in Cities (MTCC) Branch 4, but City Prosecutor Nicolas Sellon has to be on her side.

Castro said the staff member has implied that she took a picture of Jake Yu from court records to cast an evil spell on him.

Jake and his brother Nanak are respondents in the malicious mischief and grave slander by deeds case Castro filed before the MTCC Branch 4.

Last Friday, court personnel were surprised when Castro detached Jake’s picture from the records and quickly left.

Castro said the court personnel, when asked by Sellon what could have prompted Castro to filch the photo, answered,
“Iyang barangon si Yu (She will cast an evil spell on Yu).”

“Do I look like a witch?” Castro asked. She said she will convince Sellon to execute an affidavit in her favor.
But Sellon, in an interview over GMA 7 Balitang Bisdak, said he is not interested.

Castro returned Yu’s picture last Friday, attached to a letter of apology to Judge Rosabella Tormis.

Yesterday, she apologized again to Tormis through a compliance letter she submitted in response to the show-cause order the judge issued last Friday.

The judge ordered Castro to explain why she should not be cited in contempt of court for “such gross misconduct and gross disrespect of Court.”

Judgement lapse

“The undersigned begs of the Honorable Court for forgiveness.

It was a lapse of judgment on her part to filch the photo and rush out upon hearing the bell ring signaling the start of the mass. She meant to ask permission but was overwhelmed by her ardent desire not to miss the noon mass,” Castro’s compliance letter read.

She said she meant to borrow the picture so she could photocopy and attach it to a pleading she filed yesterday before RTC Branch 19.

Castro filed a rejoinder and comment to the supplemental motion to quash the information that Nanak and lawyer Vicente Fer-nandez filed.

The motion was on the libel case Castro filed against the two for an affidavit she maintains was maliciously written.

Yu and Fernandez questioned Assistant Regional State Prosecutor Vicente Mañalac’s authority in signing a resolution finding probable cause in filing the libel case.

They said that as an assistant regional prosecutor, Mañalac should only pass appeals from the City and Provincial prosecutors.

But Castro said they should have already questioned Mañalac when he conducted the clarificatory hearing since the two were present. (JGA)
