Peping is Philsoc CEO
Manila – The Philippine Sea Games Organizing Committee (Philsoc) yesterday passed a resolution formally transferring the function of chief executive officer to vice-chairman Jose Cojuangco.
With the approval, Cojuangco, who is also the president of the Philippine Olympic Committee, has now the power to enter into contracts, allocate and disburse funds in addition to supervising day-to-day operations of the Philsoc created to undertake the preparations of the 23rd Southeast Asian Games on Nov. 27 to Dec. 5.
Board resolutions
“I would therefore propose that we pass two board resolutions. One, transferring from me to our vice chairman the authority to enter contracts, allocate and disburse funds,” said Philsoc chairman Roberto Pagdanganan.
Pagdanganan, who appointed by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo to the Philsoc post in May 2004, said he will continue to call and preside over meetings of the board and perform functions that the board may designate.
“In that capacity, I shall personally give emphasis on two things, to maintain transparency in transactions and to promote volunteerism as the heart and soul of the Games,” said Pagdanganan.
Other board members who attended the meeting were International Olympic Committee permanent representative Frank Elizalde, Robert Aventajado of taekwondo and POC secretary-general Steve Hontiveros. Only former POC head Celso Dayrit and Bacolod Rep. Monico Puentevella and the weightlifting head failed to attend the meeting.
Philippine Sports Commission chairman William Ramirez, also the deputy secretary-general of Philsoc, assumed the post as chief operating officer.
“It’s not important here who will sign this or that. What is important here is we work together as a team,” said Pagdanganan.
The Philsoc will formally launch today the SEA Games media center at the Philippine International Convention Center. (FCC)
