Roofing sheets cheaper; prices of cement, others up-DTI Cebu
While prices of some basic and prime commodities in Cebu City have gone up, the cost of a roofing material has decreased.
The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Cebu reported that, based on its monitoring from Aug. 8 to Aug.15, the cost of .40-mm corrugated galvanized iron sheets had gone down to P184 from last month’s rate of P196 each. Corrugated galvanized iron sheets measuring .20 mm (thick) now cost P166 each from P168 last month.

But prices of other construction materials included in the survey increased. Cost of Portland and Pozzolan cement increased by P1 per bag while 12-mm steel bars prices increased from P148 to P158 each.
Prices of other commodities monitored by DTI, such as processed milk, canned fish, laundry soap, detergent bar, salt and flour, have also increased.
Among milk brands monitored, price of Alaska’s 300-milliliter condensed milk increased to P35 from P33.20 last month. DTI Cebu monitors Alaska, Carnation, Liberty and Bear Brand.
DTI also reported that a 25-kilo sack of hard flour now costs P600, from P595, while the price per sack of soft flour is now P505, from P495 last month.
DTI Cebu Provincial Office Trade and Industry regulatory division chief Zaide Bation told Sun.Star Cebu yesterday that canned products might also increase any time as an effect of the rising cost of tin.
Rise in the cost of raw materials contributes to price increase, depending on the commodity being produced, Bation said. But marketing expenses and product packaging could also affect its pricing, she added. (ALC)
