Wenceslao: Better stop the moro-moro By Bong O. Wenceslao
If you haven’t noticed, it has been more than a month since President Arroyo was nudged to the edge when 10 key Malacañang officials, former president Cory Aquino, Senate President Franklin Drilon, etc. sought her resignation. Admittedly, I was among those who mistakenly thought that was the beginning of the end of Arroyo’s reign.
Indeed, how time flies. Call me indifferent, if you will, but since that tumultuous July 8 (a Friday) I have loosened up and started shifting to concerns other than politics. Admittedly, I pause once in a while to consider the latest developments, but it all seemed but more of the same: accusations and counter-accusations, claims and counter-claims.
So this is not turning out to be Manny Pacquiao-Marco Antonio Barrera but Z Gorres-Deeden Kengkarum. Meaning, boring. Arroyo’s critics, for all the punches they have thrown at President Arroyo, just couldn’t hit harder. Of course, there are still some rounds left. But the longer the fight, the better will be Arroyo’s chances of surviving.

Who is fooling whom? Those who think the hearings on the impeachment complaints against the President will move swiftly must be naïve. After three days, the proceedings at the House committee on justice have still to move on.
I mean, if lawyers can stall court proceedings, how much more politicians, or worse, lawyer and politicians?
Thus, I prefer that the moro-moro will be stopped altogether. I don’t think there would be chaos if that happens. If you are pro-Arroyo, you would insist on her innocence even if she gets impeached. If you are anti-Arroyo, you would insist on her guilt even if she gets acquitted. And if you are neutral, does the impeachment matter?

Segundo Tabayoyong? That strange-sounding name belongs to a supposed former document analyst of the National Bureau of Investigation. Losing vice presidential bet Loren Legarda has solicited Tabayoyong’s services to look into some election results and pinpoint telltale signs of cheating in last year’s polls.
Actually, I have a problem with “experts” who end up thinking they are more knowledgeable than those with first-hand knowledge of the incidents they are probing. More so with “experts” who parrot the claims of their boss, like Tabayoyong, who echoed opposition claims of massive poll cheating in Cebu.
TEXTREAX. From Marilou Sy of Lahug, Cebu City: “I agree with your article on dengue. Like you, we are combining dengue prevention with prayers.” Rowela of Camputhaw, Cebu City adds: “Thank you for writing about the life of ordinary people. I am with you about dengue. It’s difficult, really, especially with the hospital bills.”
