Pure & Simple
THE bright smile and animated expression of Dolly Belo’s eyes are a help in forming your first impression of this low-key lady. That she’s articulate and pleasant are traits that endear her to hotel guests and media denizens. From doing artwork to pr-related chores for Cebu City Marriott Hotel, Dolly is a quiet operator who gets things done. And in a profession where artificiality is a given, she wears sincerity on her sleeve.
But make no mistake of considering her as a likely candidate for the cloistered life in a convent because Dolly Belo thrives in the hyperkinetic ambience of the hotel business. And she does it in her own inimitable personal style.
Define the essential Dolly Belo look.
Jeans and sleeveless shirt, that’s me!
How about the ladylike persona you project in the dresses you wear on the shoot?
I wear dresses during special occasions, like when I’m attending weddings or on Sundays. I wear dresses when I go to church twice a week, Wednesday and Sunday. I belong to the Church of Christ, which is non-denominational and Bible-based.
Is your religious affiliation a factor in your choice of clothes?
Outer appearance, as expressed in the clothes you wear, does not determine your spiritual well-being. Women who wear daring outfits are not necessarily loose with their morals.
We’re so used to seeing you in your business suit that it seems like the suit has become you.
I would like to think that a part of me is defined by my hotel attire.
So it’s like second skin to you.
I like it. With the business attire, you look professional so guests treat you on a professional basis. And it’s practical. I can wear it with a sleeveless blouse, and after my hotel duties I can take off the blazer and look casual when I go to the mall or when I commute home.
What other things are there in your fashion comfort zone?
Pants give me freedom of movement; and in the hotel I move a lot. I’m partial to closed shoes, with three to four inches of heels for obvious reasons.
Are you price-conscious?
Yes, I am. I don’t see the need to splurge on something with an expensive price tag when I could get the same thing at a lower price. It should have quality to give value for your money.
We have not seen you with short hair
I don’t cut my hair short. I think I look better with long hair.
How about accessories?
I like accessories with character. Something that looks different.
Any celebrity whose look you admire?
Angelina Jolie. She’s a special U.N. ambassadress and she goes to the most unlikely places you’d expect a movie star to undertake humanitarian jobs. She looks amazing dressed-down while hobnobbing with third world children. And when she dresses up for those red-carpet events, she’s just fabulous!
What’s fabulous about your hotel job?
The variety of characters I get to meet. My previous jobs didn’t give me this kind of interaction on a massive scale. I used to work in animation because I’m a fine arts graduate. I was designing fashion accessories for a time. I worked in radio production. I was doing an in-house art job for another hotel before working for Marriott. Sure, I got to meet a lot of people in those assignments but on a limited scale.
How long have you been with marriott?
I will mark my eighth year by September this year!
