Basketball uniform yields another lead

ONLY two of 12 suspects in the P9.4-million robbery of the Land Bank of the Philippines in Bogo are in their custody, but the police is gaining ground in identifying the other suspects.

Aside from the man identified as “Partner” and the driver of the Nissan Vanette, police found a basketball jersey with a last name, in a bag left inside the getaway vehicle when it was seized from an unoccupied building in Bogo town.

Provincial Special Operations Group (PSOG) Chief Juanito Enguerra said they are checking the man’s identity and hope to add his name to the list of identified suspects.

They also hope to identify the woman who pretended to withdraw money from the automated teller machine seconds before the heist last Aug. 2.

So far, they have arrested former Army officer Joseph “Jojo” Ancajas and the bank’s security guard, Henry Cuerda.

Although at large, Ceferino Serbano, Joel Sumabong and Dindo Ancero have been included in the complaint for robbery in band filed by the police and the National Bureau of Investigation last Aug. 11.

Clue from car shop

Sun.Star Cebu earlier reported that the man whom Cuerda called “Partner” and a man who allegedly drove the Nissan Vanette were identified.

Enguerra said Partner tried to secure a police clearance from the Borbon Police Station.

When they showed Cuerda his picture, he said it was Partner.

As for the driver of the Vanette, police learned that he had a previous drug case. He was identified because he brought the van to a car shop in Bogo to have it fixed.

Until police can amend this information, they are withholding the names of Partner and the van driver.

Police also seized a motorcycle used for the getaway.

Danny Dy, Serbano’s brother-in-law, issued an affidavit saying that it was Sumabong who often drove the blue-green Kawsaki KMX motorcycle recovered Friday night.

Asked if they had information on where the loot was stashed, Enguerra said they were closing in on the cash, but declined to give more details. MEA
