Cebu netters secure 7 finals spots

CEBU’S Kennex Abadia and the Siso brood of Niño, Sally Mae and Sallydine combined to claim seven championship-round berths yesterday at the 2005 Prince-Nasau National Junior Tennis Tournament in Cagayan de Oro City.

Bernardine “Niño” Siso, a long-time stalwart of the University of San Carlos (USC) South Campus and Team Cebu City (TCC), defeated friend John Arnel Go in two separate semis matches yesterday to secure finals berths in the 12-Under and 14-U divisions.

Niño will take on Davao City’s Andre Dizon in the U-14 finals, and Pagadian City’s Cris Verdad in the 12-U finals today.

Sally Mae, also of USC, likewise claimed two finals berths. Sally Mae posted a semis win over CDO’s Honey Mae Gilles, 6-3, 7-5, yesterday to gain a berth in the 14-U Girls finals, where she will face another CDO entry, Kathleen Uy.

Sally Mae also grabbed a finals ticket in the 14-U division after a 6-3, 7-5 semifinal-round victory over Honey Mae Gilles.

On a bittersweet note, Sally Mae’s upcoming opponent in the 14-U Girls finals will be older-sister Sallydine, who claimed the berth with a 3-6, 6-2, 10-2 victory over Davao City’s Sandra Lagman yesterday.

Abadia likewise secured two finals seats, barging into the Boys 16-U finals after scalping Tangub City’s Paul Thomas Saladaga, 6-4, 6-4, and Boys 18-U with a 6-4, 0-6, 10-3 semis win over Gabriel Reyes. GCM
