Return By Ritchie Landis Doner Quijano
It can’t be said that he left because this artist never really did; he just had to seek hibernation. Though few have stopped and returned, the painter Vic Rosello did just that--started painting again after more than a decade in hiatus-- to quench his thirst for art now that he’s got ample time.
Vic got his first art lessons from the defunct Gallery 90 in the ’70s and was under the mentorship of Jun Mendoza and his brother Sofronio (better known as SYM in the artists’ circle). When he got back, he joined group shows after he met some University of San Carlos fine arts faculty members who urged him to get back into the action. But the person who really convinced him to take up the call of the brush was Joe Picornell, who handed him one. Today, Vic is among the newest members of the Cebu Art Association but most definitely not a neophyte in painting. In Zamboanga, as a student at the Ateneo, he already won in a painting competition. Then he studied architecture at the University of Mindanao and University of Southern Philippines. Soon after, he involved himself in the construction business; these were the years that comprised part of his inactive days.
Nowadays he is trying to make up for that gap and is back painting with a vengeance. Painting in earnest, he was part of the Panag-hugpong and Paints and Strokes show that concluded recently at the SM art center.
Apart from painting he dabbles in sculpture and plays the piano, guitar, organ, flute and saxophone. His son Bingbong is taking up fine arts at the University of San Carlos while his youngest RJ is showing interest in the field, the father proudly announced.
