Cebu sports heads meet Peping today

Cebu’s sports leaders will get their chance to air their frustrations over the issues on the hosting of the 23rd Southeast Asian Games in Nov. 27 to Dec. 5.

Jonathan Guardo, chairman of Cebu Southeast Games Organizing Committee; Cheryl Ouano, executive director of the Mandaue City Sports Development Commission; Cebusoc secretariat head Allan Torrevillas and Danao City Sports Commission head Oscar Rodriguez are scheduled to meet with Philippine Southeast Asian Games Organizing Committee chief executive officer Jose Cojuangco at 10 a.m. today at the PICC.

“We got confirmation from Cecilia Juntereal, head of Philsoc secretariat, that Peping Cojuangco is going to meet with us on Tuesday,” Torrevillas told Sun.Star Cebu.

Schedule

Torrevillas said the meeting is scheduled at 10 but Juntereal is not sure whether Cojuangco is available at the time.

“She said the meeting is at 10 a.m. but she couldn’t confirm whether Cojuangco is available at that time, and Cecil only told us that we have to adjust to Cojuaco’s schedule,” Torrevillas said.

Last night, the Cebusoc executive committee held its regular meeting, and concerns from the different committee heads were expected to flood the agenda.

“I have already prepared the concerns that I am about to present in a meeting with Cojuangco but I am expecting to get more of this kind during our execom meeting,” said Torrevillas.

Admission

Last week, Bacolod City Rep. Monico Puentevella admitted to Manila Bulletin that he received a P40-million financial aid from Philsoc for venue repairs. Puentevella later denied he received the said assistance.

Cojuangco, on the other hand, denied that Bacolod will receive P50 million, instead they might get only P5 million.

CebuSoc has already asked for financial assistance, but PhilSoc has made no commitment so far. (RCM)
