CebuSoc gets ‘full support’ from PhilSoc
The Philippine Southeast Asian Games Organizing Committee (PhilSoc) wants to make up for its “lapses in judgment” the past weeks by offering to hold a special SEA Games launching in Cebu sometime next month.
“As their way to appease us, they want to come to Cebu and hold a special Seag launching in September. The big shots in PhilSoc, including (PhilSoc CEO) Peping Cojuanco, Steve Hontiveros, Robert Aventajado, PSC Chairman Butch Ramirez and PSC commissioner Ritchie Garcia will all be coming,” said Mandaue City Sports Development Commission executive director Cheryl Ouano.
Financial help
Ouano met with Cojuangco yesterday along with CebuSoc chairman Jonathan Guardo, CebuSoc secretariat Allan Torrevillas and Danao City Councilor Oscar “Boying” Rodriguez at the Philippine International Convention Center.
Aside from holding a special launching in Cebu, PhilSoc also assured CebuSoc officials of their full support and prompt release of the financial assistance, which will come from President Arroyo’s P300-million pledge for the country’s hosting of the biennial games.
“PhilSoc also assured us they would work on the financial assistance we requested for the operations of the events in Cebu. They also appointed a point man inside PhilSoc to take care of our concerns,” said Ouano.
Special treatment
PhilSoc named Bacolod City Rep. Monico Puentevella and Garcia as contact persons of Cebu.
Cebu sports leaders earlier protested the Philsoc’s “special treatment” extended to Bacolod, which, like Cebu, will host some of the Seag events.
“For now, we’re back to the drawing board. At least we aired our frustrations, and they also listened. All our concerns are now being addressed and we can now focus on the hosting. We hope that there will be no more controversies in the next three months,” said Ouano. (RCM)
