Go gets GMA council seat
Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) president Robert Go has been tapped as a member of a national economic advisory group.
President Gloria Maca-pagal-Arroyo met the core group for a roundtable discussion last Aug. 19, where they agreed to focus on three industries—tourism, information and communications technology (ICT)/human resource and agriculture—where the Philippines can compete with other countries.
Go strongly recommended both tourism and ICT since he believes Cebu has competitive advantages in the two industries.
Support
CCCI’s Tourism Core Group has put in place the Tourism Roadmap, which aims to significantly increase the tourist arrivals in the country.
Go also pushed for ICT and marine training in the area of human resource development.
One of the advisory group’s goals in the next three months is to get the expanded value-added tax law approved.
The other business leaders who are part of the advisory council are Tessie Sy-Coson of the SM Group, Philppine Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Donald Dee, Francis Chua of the Federation of Filipino Chinese Chambers of Commerce, Guillermo Luz of the Makati Business Club, Manolo Lopez of Meralco and Endika Aboitiz of Aboitiz Transport Systems, among others.
With the looming fiscal crisis, the country’s leading businessmen are supporting Arroyo’s efforts to put the economy back on track. (From PR)
