Shape up, DOT tells companies in Davao region
The Department of Tourism (DOT) 11 has urged business establisments in Davao region, particularly those in Davao City, to improve their facilities in preparation for the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) Tourism Forum (ATF) set on Jan. 13 to 21 next year.
DOT 11 Director Sonia Garcia said in a recent interview that for the city to become 100 percent ready for the ATF, certain renovations should be made in hotels and other establishments that will be used for the nine-day event.
Gathering
Between 2,000 and 3,000 guests from all over the world are expected to participate in the ATF, which the DOT considers the biggest gathering of tourism stakeholders.
“We expect 55 countries all throughout the world to send representatives. From the Asia-Pacific Region alone, we already have 11 countries,” she said. “It is such a big, big event,” she said.
Garcia expressed appreciation over the initial reaction of certain establishments in the city.
Renovations
The NCCC Mall Convention Center, where the opening ceremony is designated to take place, is already undergoing some renovations.
On the other hand, the Marco Polo Hotel, where most of the visitors, especially the dignitaries, will be accommodated, is also preparing its facilities and improving its services.
Garcia is optimistic that as the staging of the ATF approaches, more establishments will develop their amenities.
“December pa lang kasi ngayong taon, we are already expecting a number of guests to arrive. Magsisimula na kasing mag-aayos ang mga participants for the ATF,” she said. (Sun.Star Davao/Sunnex)
