Only 6 officials attend rites

As expected, yesterday’s 36th Charter Day celebration in Mandaue City was simple, with only six elected officials gracing the activity.

Led by Acting Mayor Amadeo Seno Jr., Councilors Allan Borbajo, Rosita Benabaye, Wenceslao Gakit, Raul Cabahug and Jonas Cortes raised the Philippine flag at City Hall grounds, with Mandaue Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) president Eric Mendoza.

In his welcome address, Seno acknowledged the MCCI’s effort in organizing the activities for the Charter Day.

Mendoza, for his part, said the MCCI is always ready to help the City Government.

Officials delivered their short speeches in a simple program after a mass and the flag-raising ceremony early yesterday morning.

The celebration was a simple one, with a drum and bugle corps providing the fanfare.

Only one streamer was displayed, announcing the Charter Day “fun run.”

The activity, however, turned into a “fun walk,” as the City employees preferred not to run the entire stretch, from the City Hall to A.C. Cortes Ave. and back.

In an interview, Seno said the City has decided not to spend so much for the celebration because of the City’s participation in Wow Philippines at Intramuros, Manila and a festival in Surigao del Norte.

At the fellowship dinner and awards ceremony in Waterfront Mactan last night, the City honored the top 10 corporate taxpayers: Excellence Appliance Technology Inc., Mitsubishi Motors Cebu Corp., Vismin Foods Corp., United Laboratories Inc., Monde Nissin Biscuits Corp., Aboitiz Construction Group Inc., Pilipinas Makro Inc., San Miguel Corp., Zuellig Pharma Corp. and the Visayan Electric Company.

Dr. Rosemarie Tirado, nutrition and population management officer, garnered the award for outstanding department head.

Market Supervisor Antonio Taylo was awarded as outstanding division head while Concepcion Manatad, Felisa Ledris, Franklin Icalina Jr., Ramonito Agbay, Deirdre Jumao-as, Lolita Villa and Thelma Suico were awarded outstanding employees.
The City also honored the Mandaue City Police Office, Mandaue City Jail and the Mandaue City Fire Department in their efforts to keep the city safe and conducive to business.

PO1 Bruslexter Lagahid, Senior Insp. Jovito Canlapan, Insp. Jesus Basco, SPO1 Nolicasio Nanoy, Senior Insp. Jose Liddawa Jr., Chief Insp. Gaudencio Cagape and Jail Warden Jose Moring were given awards for their respective achievements.
