CIS scores big upset v. CFFL

Cebu International School (CIS) bounced back with vengeance, scoring a monstrous 19-0 upset over Cebu Flag Football League (CFFL) at the end of the elimination round of the 1st Cebuana Lhuillier Slo-pitch Challenge at the San Roque Field last Saturday.

Salazar Colleges of Science and Institute of Technology, on the other hand, secured the No.1 spot with two more wins, 9-6 over Berns Ang and 8-2 over CIS.

Berns Ang secured the No.2 spot following a 5-4 win over Mandaue City, while CFFL still managed to secure the No.3 spot after beating Pera Padala-Abellana National School, 6-2. Mandaue took the final spot into the semifinal round after beating Pera Padala-ANS anew, 8-3.

First inning

Playing with a lot of vigor, CIS opened the slaughter with six runs in the first inning before finishing the job in the fifth, scoring 12 runs more with Bob Booth and Geoff Littman scoring two double runs batted in (RBI). Von and Jerry scored two runs more as the game was put under the mercy rule.

Berns Ang, meanwhile, needed Carryboy de la Cerna’s hit deep into the right field to beat Mandaue City in the extension eighth inning.

The score was tied at 3-all at the end of regulation when de la Cerna sent second-base runner O. Kalinga to the home plate, then used Stewart Kalinga’s hit to the center to score a run himself.

Mandaue could not match Berns Ang’s enthusiasm as C. Castañeda scored the lone run before Francis Bongo was taken out at the first base.

In Salazar Colleges’ win over CIS, Rowena Tabar and Apple Bacarisas carried the men to the home plate as the two SCSIT women’s team alumni scored a RBI and a run each in the first inning that set the tone for a huge victory.
